Early 1940's Kitchen
Renovation:
The homeowners were at
the mercy of their quirky kitchen. The kitchen design challenge
was to improve lighting, function and storage in both the
kitchen and eating area. The kitchen was dark and the space plan
was poor, making it difficult for more than one person to work.
Counter and storage space were inadequate for the family.
In the design of the
new space plan, structural and decorative clutter was removed,
dark materials were replaced, lighting was added, the ceiling
was raised, a skylight and a bay window were added, an entrance
way was doubled and all of the doors were replaced with full
lites.
The homeowners now
enjoy a kitchen that serves their lifestyle very well, whether
it is just the two of them or a gathering. Multiple participants
can engage in meal preparation and cleanup, making large
gatherings very manageable. Storage capacity is increased,
meeting all of the space requirements with room to spare. Light
and a sense of nurturing comfort welcomes each one who enters
this kitchen. |
