The original 40-year old house had a large underused living room, a dining room that was too small, a very dark family room, and a kitchen that was closed off from the living spaces. So they took down the wall between the Kitchen and the Dining Room, and the Dining Room and the Family Room. New skylights were added in the dark family room, and 2 new windows. The Living Room would live like a Family Room, with overflow to the Sunroom just beyond.

The new Living Room trusses were re-engineered to create larger flared well skylights that brought in much more light than the skylights simply between the trusses. The masonry wall was cut, and a new window was installed on each side of the fireplace. |
The kitchen plan placed the cooking and main sink on one side of the traffic corridor. The 2nd sink and refrigerator make a separate work zone, altogether creating work space for 4-5 people, as well as another on the other side of the peninsula. The family room wall came down, and a flush ceiling was connected. |

![]() The preferred style was contemporary, with a rustic edge, very naturalistic, combined with antiques. |

The Dining Room was given distinction with a contemporary light fixture, as well as general and accent lighting that brought the room to life. The entry was relocated to exactly center on the window. |
The bookcase room/divider needed to effectively define the Breakfast Area, while allowing the flooring to transition smoothly. New floor finishes were needed to simplify the space.
