The conservatory addition and newly remodeled family room feature a two-sided fireplace, high ceilings, and large expanses of glass - and demanded a decor that connected the two very different areas into one cozy living space. The goal was to bridge the transition from interior space to the new outdoor living space centered around the new pool.

All upholstery was chosen from fabrics that resist sun fading and chorine for the occasional pool refugee. The windows are treated with a casual version of swag and cascade, in an unlined gauzey turquoise blue. The window seat is cushioned in a thick seat cushion and bolsters in a stripe that coordinates with the blue of the loveseats. Pillows in gold and red bounce color and life throughout the space. A flexible lighting plan includes accent lighting over the fireplace, ambient lighting throughout, and a 12-light accent pendant in the Conservatory. |
A library look and function for the former family room solved the problem of getting the desk out of the pantry closet. A vibrant red oriental rug keeps the room in palette, and is joined by warm caramel leather chairs positioned to enjoy the fireplace. Warm wooden bookshelves and cabinets, a bamboo styled light scale desk surround them to extend the function of the room. |

The blue and gold color scheme from the adjoining kitchen, and the red in the living room adjacent to the library were adjusted to slightly more yellow tones for the conservatory and picked up in the oriental tea-washed carpet. Paint was chosen in a vibrant gold tone to register against the strong light that floods the room all day. In keeping with the rest of the house, the trim is painted white. |
The furniture was planned to be flexible for many activities, including the occasion when it might all be pushed back for dancing! |
