 The cramped interior living space of this contemporary ranch was transformed into a spacious and airy invitation for this couple’s busy social life. There were numerous pieces of art that needed a better home, and a baby grand piano that had long lived in the basement that the homeowners desired to bring into their living space.

New natural reed shades were installed, chair re-upholstery was
completed, and the baby grand piano was brought up to be the focal point
from the foyer into the new space, with its own precision lighting.
The many artworks include heirloom sculpture, many original oils, pen and ink drawings, and found objects from the flea markets of Europe. A 17th century chair back proudly balances an old Swedish keylock on either side of the antique Italian mirror in the foyer. Antique french plates offset charming sculpture and anonymous oils in the kitchen. All were thoughtfully positioned, with care for the greatest visual impact and best effect. A Peruvian reverse glass painted framed mirror reflects light back into the piano space. A curving line of track lighting repeats the piano's curves, and increases flexibility in the lighting scheme, while playing off the dramatic angles created by raising the ceiling in the new Activity Area and Kitchen. The ceiling change broke up the bowling alley effect that might have occurred with elongated living space, and the strong paint color further helps define the spaces. |

 With the space added by creating a walk out bay in the former screen porch, the new Dining Room fits comfortably in its new home. The end windows were spaced and sized to accommodate their buffet on the end wall where their contemporary artisan-crafted table lamp balances the large oil. Accent lighting completes the tableau. |
Lighting and accent paint create a new display Gallery on the hallway wall behind the open fireplace, enjoyed from the Living Room, as well as the Kitchen and the Foyer, expanding living space to include what was once just a dark functional hallway. |
