| This
kitchen remodel created a socially accessible space by removing
the dining room wall, relocating the electrical panel box, and a
portion of the load-bearing living room wall. The Kitchen
footprint increased by 25% without an addition to the house by
relocating the furnace, water heater, and laundry. The hardwood
flooring was feathered in where the new peninsula angled into the
original kitchen space. Space
was visually enlarged by creating the kitchen open to the living
room and dining room. The countertop was shaped to permit
unimpeded access through the sliding door, and then widened to
allow space for two stools. Two types of stone were used on the
countertops. Rich deep Giallo Vicenza granite with occasional blue
flashes provide durable work surface in the kitchen area.
Botticino Semi-Classico marble with finish honed to an inviting
softness tops the raised peninsula countertop, screening kitchen
clutter. Honey stained and bronze glazed in the kitchen, the pecan
cabinets received a darker stain on the peninsula transitioning to
the living space to coordinate with living and dining room
furniture.
